Recently I have been working a lot down in Essex, exploring the countryside and discovering a huge array of beautiful venues. Towards the end of last season I had a brilliant weekend shooting two weddings back to back. The Saturday was spent at the cute and characterful Newland Hall (click to see that wedding on the blog) and after a fantastic day there, I might have been forgiven for thinking that Sunday’s venue had large shoes to fill if it was going to impress me as much as Newland Hall. Well, I wasn’t disappointed! As soon as I pulled up at Houchins and saw the quirky top heavy farm house, beautiful barn and gardens and of course the rolling wheat fields surrounding the place, I knew Sunday was going to be another great wedding and provide me with endless opportunities to create new and interesting images.
Clare and Niki are a sweet couple who live locally to Houchins, but their time together has taken them all over the world; they even named their tables after the many wonderful places they have visited together. As a keen traveller myself we had a lot in common and it was lovely to work with and photograph such like minded people. I met Clare, her mother and her bridesmaids in the morning at Houchins in the farmhouse, where they had a lovely bright room to get ready in. Elsewhere at Houchins Niki was busy with his groomsmen putting the final touches on the reception, before he too retired to another part of the farmhouse to get suited and booted for the big moment. Houchins is like many venues I work at nowadays where they can cater for the whole day from getting ready, to the ceremony, to the reception and party to follow after. I like to explore on wedding days, but there is something very relaxed about weddings all in one location, with no travel or traffic to add stress to the day. Needless to say it was a lovely wedding and here are just a few of my favourite images from the day….
