Although I am a Suffolk wedding photographer by geographical definition, I do cover and, fortunately for me, do regularly get to shoot down in Sunny Essex! On this particular occasion it was at the beautiful Maidens Barn for the lovely wedding of Lauren and Marc. The day started at Lauren’s parents house where the girls were all to get ready. Bridal prep is grand hotel rooms has an obvious appeal to it, however there is also something special about getting to see people in their own private environments, where they can be totally relaxed and at ease. Anything that can help you stay calm amongst the anticipation and excitement of a wedding day is a good thing!
Helping me out second shooting on this one was my good friend Lucy Lloyd and it was her job capture the build up for Marc and the boys, which took place on site at Maidens Barn. By the time I arrived at Maidens the sun was shining brightly and the scene was set for a beautiful outdoor ceremony in the courtyard, adorned with flowers in full bloom. I’ve shot a at Maidens Barn a couple of times now and I am lucky enough to be returning there again this coming wedding season. There is plenty to explore around the grounds, but I am particularly fond of the large grassy mound out back. The angles and perspectives is gives you to work with are great and if you chance upon a clear blue sky (like we did) it makes for a stunning backdrop!
After enjoying the sunshine it was inside for dinner and speeches and you can see from Lauren’s reactions that Marc’s speech was particularly touching. I think that’s one of the elements of wedding photography that attracts me the most; you don’t need to hear what was being said to see how it made Lauren feel…and in years to come when the words of the speech are hard to recall, the feeling and the reaction to them will still be evident for all to see. That as they say is priceless…
